Carlos Tevez

MAN UTD

Carlos Tevez's move to Manchester United was a long and drawn out saga of the 2007 premiership transfer window. With all the controversy surrounding the third party agreement and West Ham, every piece of documentation was carefully examined.
In the end it was agreed that West Ham would release Tevez from his playing registration as long as MSI, who owns the players economic rights, paid West Ham £2million. Manchester United then proposed a 2 year loan deal for Tevez, similar to the deal that took Mascherano to Liverpool in the previous transfer window. This was satisfied by the Premier League and Tevez signed for Man Utd on 10th August 2007. After playing through the summer for Argentina in the Copa America, Tevez had just a couple of weeks rest before joining up with his new team mates. And with the season barely under way Man Utd's strike force was decimated with the loss of Wayne Rooney (fractured foot), Louis Saha (hamstring & knee problems) and the retirement of Ole Gunnar Solskajer through injury.

Tevez scored his debut goal for United in a 2-0 win over rivals Chelsea. An instinctive diving header opening his Old Trafford account in front of 76,000 supporters.

There was much debate in the press and amongst pundits as to whether Tevez and Rooney would be able to form a partnership, with both players having similar qualities, but recent performances have put that debate to bed. The two front men have formed a good understanding in the opening part of the season and the goal scored by Tevez and set up by Rooney against Middlesborough was majestic.
